7 Uses for Concrete (Number 5 Will Surprise You)
Be prepared to open up your mind to the versatility of concrete!
1. Concrete eggshells
Yes, the shell in the image above is concrete. Expect to start seeing these pop up in gardens or on window sides. These concrete eggshells make the perfect pots for planting herbs and succulents. They’re also unique additions to inside the household as candle holders or for storing random nicknacks.
2. Ipad Stand
A concrete iPad stand is that one item that will be handed down through your family for generations. The great-grandkids will one day have it as an antique sculpture in their living room and retell its heritage to their kids and guests. You can feel assured that this iPad stand isn’t going to fall apart and end up in the council clean-up pile in a year.

3. Fire bowls and pits
Firepits seem to be everywhere you look at the moment. There was a surge in popularity during and after the pandemic. Who doesn’t love a cosy outdoor fire pit during the winter months with a glass of red wine and a full belly! If you’ve been down to your local Bunnings, you will notice more varieties than last winter.
But what material to choose and what will stay looking good for the longest?
Concrete fire pits LOOK impressive and are the most durable material. When you purchase an outdoor piece, you want peace of mind that it will last whatever the weather.
4. Entertainment unit
Bear with me here. There are several ways a concrete entertainment unit can work. To mention a few, you can stack cinder blocks with oriented strand board in a configuration suited to your TV and speaker system set-up. The cinder blocks double as storage slots and supports. A STURDY option that can be rearranged each time you upgrade the TV.
Or go for a beautiful polished concrete two-toned, charcoal and grey entertainment unit that’s also customisable. We like the Concrete Entertainment Unit from Aspiration Render.
5. Cinder block mini grill
What a genius idea!
Chicken skewers cooked over hot charcoals – YES, please!
All you need is 2 (8’’ x 8’’ x 16’’) cinder blocks, a bag of BBQ fuel of your choosing, and a BBQ gas lighter. Place one cinder block face down on a heatproof surface, the other on the top right side up, then fill it with BBQ fuel, and voilà!
The easiest and tastiest snack you’ll ever make. And not to mention healthy too.
6. Ping pong table
This is entirely impractical to move but filled with rustic industrial charm! Also, not a single worry with the wear and tear when keeping it outdoors because it’s SUPER weather-resistant, and the ball bounce is professional competition quality.
You can cause as much ruckus playing as you want! A concrete Ping Pong table can handle it!
7. An esky
Another ingenious idea!
Perfect for the home outdoor entertaining area!
With wheels and without a lid, but you thought of that, right?! (a cover made out of concrete would be too heavy and especially not ideal for lifting after a few drinks)
Once cooled down from the ice, the concrete’s high thermal mass will stabilise the interior temperature, keeping the drinks at a perfect temperature for much longer than a conventional esky.
So there you have it….
Seven uses for concrete you probably never considered but possibly are now – especially that mini cinder block grill. Come to think of it, this would couple great with the concrete esky and the ping pong table. A man-proof set-up!
